2014 Call For Speakers Now Open
Are you an artist, inventor, philosopher or entrepreneur? Are you interested in sharing your stories, experiences or ideas? Come speak at this year’s TEDxRenfrewCollingwood. Organizers are looking for unique, motivated and passionate people who are willing to share their knowledge and vision with the world.
TEDx gives individuals the opportunity to get together with like-minded personalities in their communities who are excited about sharing their innovative and world changing ideas and stories. Through a combination of live speakers, performers and activities, these events spark deep discussion and connections, in an intellectually charged atmosphere, that last throughout the year.
Speaking at a TEDx event can be life-changing. Several speakers have continued to inspire and affect changes in their communities and the world. After his experience at TEDxCalgary in 2010, Naheed Nenshi, then a university professor, went on to launch a successful campaign for mayor. He ran for re-election again in 2013 and captured 74% of the vote. TEDxRenfrewCollingwood’s own Anne Makosinski, the young scientist who spoke at last year’s event, appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon earlier this year to showcase her body-heat powered flashlight.
The opportunity to speak is open to anyone — as long as you have a great idea and are willing to share it. “It’s a personal journey for many speakers, it’s often cathartic and it’s always personally rewarding,” says Gemma Scott, TEDxRenfrewCollingwood core organizer.
This year’s TEDxRenfrewCollingwood will take place on October 25th at Windermere Auditorium. It is a day long event and speakers have up to 18 minutes to present their talk under the theme ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’. All presentations are video-recorded and shared with the world via TED’s YouTube channel.
