In his own words: Brian Adler, MC
Hello TEDxRenfrewCollingwood fans!
Exciting news from TEDxRenfrewCollingwood! We’re thrilled to announce that the funny and fabulous Brian Adler will be back co-emceeing TEDxRenfrewCollingwood 2014! Brian enjoyed his experience at TEDxRenfrewCollingwood 2013 so much that he’s agreed to join us again – and we couldn’t be happier. Brian is a TV host who has worked throughout Vancouver – but rather than tell you about him, we decided to let him speak to you, in his own words:
TEDxRCW: Hi Brian! Welcome back. In your line of work, you see a lot of speakers and a lot of hosts. What do you think makes great ones?
BA: I think a great speaker is someone who can speak from the heart and has something to say. Speaking is about connecting, so whether that’s through eye contact and body language or through the content itself, I think it’s all about how you relate to the audience.
TEDxRCW: The Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood is obviously our favourite place – but what do you love about the neighbourhood? What is your connection?
BA: I live in the neigbourhood! I didn’t grow up here but my daughter is and I’m really glad. I just love its personality. There’s so much character in this neighbourhood and it’s really fun to not only watch it grow, but to watch my family grow with it.
TEDxRCW: Do you have a favourite TED Talk?
BA: So many great ones! I know it sounds strange, but there was a 5-minute talk with a guy teaching the audience how to properly tie a shoelace and it was riveting. Seriously, it changed the way I look at shoes! I quote that talk all the time.
TEDxRCW: You’ve agreed to come back again this year – thank you! What did you enjoy most about last year’s TEDxRenfrewCollingwood?
BA: I really liked the energy backstage. Watching the speakers practice and mentally prepare to jump on stage was really great to see. There’s something about a collective nervous energy before a series of performances that I just can’t get enough of. Such a great vibe!
TEDxRCW: People want to know more about the real Brian Adler. What are some of your biggest accomplishments and life highlights?
BA: I’m incredibly proud that I hold a record that I set in 1992 on an arcade game called “Wrestle-Fest” at a mall in Bellingham, WA. Oh, and my 2-year-old daughter is pretty cool too.
TEDxRCW: As you know, our theme this year is “Rock, Paper, Scissors”. What is your go-to “Rock, Paper Scissors” move?
BA: Dy-No-Mite! I’m all about thinking outside the box…. And using cliché’s whenever possible.
Come see Brian do what he does best as he co-emcees TEDxRenfrewCollingwood 2014 on October 15th, 2014, at Windermere Auditorium in Vancouver. And the co? (You didn’t think we’d let him up there alone, did you?!) You’ll just have to wait and see….
