Can’t go wrong with hosts like these – Lindsay Smith

We can’t tell you how thrilled we are to introduce you to the hosts of TEDxRenfrewCollingwood 2013!  Lindsay Smith and Brian Adler  will take the stage on October 19th to navigate the audience through a day of curated talks, interactive activities and personal connection.

Bringing a perfect blend of humour, professionalism and warmth to TEDxRenfrewCollingwood, we know that Lindsay and Brian will make it an event worth remembering!

We caught up with both hosts recently to talk a little bit MC and a little bit TED.  Today we bring you Lindsay Smith -

TEDxRCW:  We’re so excited that you and Brian will be MC-ing our event. What do you think makes a great event host? Where does the magic lie?

LS:  A good host energizes an audience and makes speakers feel comfortable on stage.  The host is your content anchor.  A skilled one can pull all of the ideas and topics together to tell a bigger story.

TEDxRCW:  What’s the craziest thing that you’ve experienced while hosting a show/event? Good or bad. Wacky guest behaviour to epic tech fail.
LS:  Inviting Malcolm Gladwell, author of Blink, to Vancouver to speak at the Vancouver Convention Centre for the F5 Expo.  Meeting Malcolm was and experience in itself and it was a privilege to introduce him at the event.
TEDxRCW:  The big TED is coming to Vancouver in 2014. What is your “can’t miss” activity/experience for people visiting our city?
LS:  Grouse Mountain.  Climb it, ride the gondola, do whatever it takes to soak in the amazing views at the top
TEDxRCW:   What is your all-time favourite TEDTalk?  How come?
LS:  Salmon Khan’s Let’s Use Video to Re-Invent Education.  His content resonates strongly with me. As an instructor and someone who has developed curriculum for BCIT, I believe Khan’s vision will change the education system.
